A seed to fruition

A seed of a story suddenly came to fruition today and I have been writing all morning. I hold the shape of it in my mind. There is not much of a plot – perhaps I should abandon stories with plots as that is not my strength – but I hope it is interesting nonetheless. It is about a girl called Pallu who stitches silk for airships.

It seems to me my most successful way of writing. Yesterday I worked on my memory room story during much of the afternoon. It was a struggle but I kept going, knowing I could come back and rewrite it when required, but feeling that the words were flat and directionless. Then, I was reading a novel called Everfair, a steampunk story set in the Congo and finding it not very engaging (I am not the only one, judging by the reviews and despite the fascinating subject). These came together with a seed that had been at the back of my mind for a couple of months, and here we are.

That said, let us see if I finish it or just wind down like clockwork.
